Toilets of the Three Capes Track
29 September 2016
Have you ever wondered what happens to the toilets you use out in the wilderness? Often they are ‘long-drop’ composting toilets that use enzymes to break matter down but in higher visited locations such as on the Overland Track and Three Capes Track in Tasmania, the volume is too much for these traditional methods so a different tactic is used.
Pods sit underneath the toilets and staff swap them over when they reach capacity. When it comes time to take out the full ones and bring in some empties, a helicopter is the best bet! Osborne Aviation was recently involved in the toilet-changing operation on the Three Capes Track.
